North American Retrievers, also known as ‘Double Doodles’, are the up and coming hybrid!

North American Retrievers (NAR’s) are an ideal cross for many reasons. They are mostly nonshedding, and will continue to be more so as the generations continue. They come from the mixing of 3 great breeds, the Standard Poodle, the Golden Retriever, and the Labrador Retriever. All 3 of these breeds routinely make the “smartest breed” lists, in addition to being great family comapnions. NAR’s are a great choice for service dog training, and that is one of the leading factors in their breeding. Service and therapy work should be something this cross excells at, as all 3 parents breeds do as well. Add the non shedding coat to the list, as well as being more suitable to someone with allergies than just a Lab or Golden, and these guys are destined for greatness! Many service groups have been using the Golden/Lab mixes for years

What is the difference between the NAR doodles and “regular” doodles?

The biggest difference is the variation in their coats.

The F1 Labradoodles tend to have quite a variety in coat textures; from a thin wavy, low shedding coat to a thicker, more curly, non-shedding coat.

Most of our F1 Goldendoodles have more of the favorable non-shedding, very soft, hypoallergenic, fleece coat .

Both labradoodles & goldendoodle have made wonderful family pets as well as therapy & guide dogs and by combing the two breeders are able to combine their wonderful personalities while producing the higher standard favored hypoallergenic, soft fleece, non shedding coats.

The reason for breeding the Double Doodle is to create not only a beautiful, allergy friendly pet, but a dog that has a calm disposition, but an eager to learn and serve type attitude. With the combination of lab, golden retriever and poodle, you will find a work horse type dog, that is calm, but also intelligent and allergy friendly. These are very beautiful dogs, but very useful and happy dogs.
