The Ugly Truth about Australian Labradoodle Founder - Rutland Manor

Knowledge of Rutland Manor’s fraudulent behaviour is growing and the anger is spreading. If you paid up to $30,000 and in some cases even more for a ‘breeding bitch’ that was purchased from a puppy farm for a few hundred dollars wouldn’t you be angry?

Breeders all over the world are angry and rightly so, they have been ripped of for thousands of dollars and Beverley has laughed all the way to the bank as she typed up the fake pedigree’s.

Beverley paid $500 per puppy from the well known Valley View puppy farm (currently under investigation by Australian authorities) and tries to explain it away as a ‘rescue’. Its obscene and you can read about it here. Yet another website determined to educate the consumer and bravely print the facts.

Our thoughts once again go out to the ethical breeders who unknowingly purchased the Rutland Manor puppy farm dogs.

History:

Rutland Manor is one of the main founders of the Labrador, Poodle and Cocker Spaniel Mix known as the “Australian Labradoodle”. Most of the well known ALD breeders online  still own and breed breeding stock directly from the Rutland Manor lines. Rutland Manor is a Puppy Mill pure and simple.

In 1989, Rutland Manor Labradoodle Breeding and Research Center was organized in Darnum, Victoria by Beverley Manners and her daughter Angela Wetzel Cunningham. Ms. Cunningham simultaneously organized The Tegan Park Labradoodle Breeding and Research Centre located in Seaspray, Victoria.

In 1998, Tegan Park introduced the “Miniature” Labradoodle to the public. When these were crossed with the standard Labradoodle, the medium Labradoodle resulted. Thus three sizes are currently distinguished.

What ensued was a remarkable yet somewhat misleading marketing campaign that took the world, particularly the United States by storm inducing “Doodle Fever” in the masses. Thanks to the skillfull use of PR combined with the fact that doodles happen to truly be wonderful canine companions regardless of their coat types, the demand for these dogs increased dramatically and virtually overnight. Suddenly everyone and anyone who could get their hands on a Standard Poodle and Lab breeding pair, went into the doodle breeding business.

In 2008 Ms. Manners of Rutland Manor and her daughter Ms. Cunningham of Tegan Park had a nasty and very public “parting of ways”. Cunningham’s bitter divorce and the disolvement of mutual assets acquired during the marriage, resulted in Tegan Park USA doodles and foundation breeding stock dogs worth millions left in deplorable conditions on the Cunningham’s Florida ranch. Many dog’s were “auctioned” off on the internet…Many were filtered through the shelter system…. Many who were sick and suffering from various ailments including Parvo virus and malnutrition died however Ms. Manners of Rutland Manor continues to sell her dogs online at Rutlandmanor.com and Tegan Park continues to sell her dogs at Labradoodleasd.com

Breeders and purchasers of Rutland Manor ASD Australian Labradoodles are starting to ask the question “Am I getting what I paid for?” There is no doubt these dogs are loved no matter what they are. But it is simply dishonest to claim that RM dogs are true Australian Labradoodles when they are quite simply un groomed Poodles.  If you want a poodle there are better breeders out there. What a sham!

Now her website claims she did indeed get away from the Labrador and has not used it in her designer breed due to shedding and wanting an allergy friendly dog. So, there is no Lab in your doodle, CORRECT?? Why then do you call these dogs LABRADOODLES, when they are clearly NOT. They are Poodle crosses, period, better yet Cocka poos since you clearly infused Cocker spainels and an irish water spaniel. But no Labs whatsoever.

There are claims that Rutland Manor has been buying dogs from pounds and other puppy factroies for years and giving them a fake “pedigrees” then selling the puppies for thousands of dollars.

I believe people should be aware that these websites exists so you can educated yourself on the history of the ALD before deciding where to purchase your Australian Labradoodle from. There are some good, decent ALD breeders out there who are not associated with Rutland Manor. I can not recommend anyone because I do not personally have any experience adopting an ALD.
